My Take

Ask your child: "How does this make you feel when you win prizes in this game? How do you feel when you see your friends' loot? How do you feel after you play this?"
The in-game advertising uses manipulative techniques to "up-sell" subscriptions and promote non-educational content. This is directed at children in lower grades who are not capable of evaluating these techniques or defending themselves. Most parents do not have the time to monitor and limit this kind of software and its malevolent effects.

How I Use It

This product is widely used, but the business model is manipulative and designed to promote in-game engagement and usage (learning is a second-order effect of the gameplay). The simple-minded individualized learning does not offset the negatives of this software.
