Great for browsing and finding poems in a variety of categories
Community Review for Poets.org
My Take
It's true that there's a paucity of lesson plans and resources specifically for the classroom, but the database of poems and articles is unbeatable. There's a deep and rich diversity in subject matter, ethnicity, and time. I especially appreciate the ever-expanding selection of contemporary poems. Every poem is tagged into several relevant categories, so it's easy to peruse by author, topic, era, or form. Many poems also come with recorded audio readings, and some are also accompanied by animated videos.
How I Use It
Mostly as a reference, but it is a very good one at that. Because the selection is so vast and diverse, it can be a little overwhelming for students who don't know what they want, and there's no filter for age-appropriateness.
I haven't yet implemented any of the packaged lessons, but they all seem rigorous and interesting.
I also subscribe to its RSS feed for Poem-of-the-Day, which often serves as an inspiration and delight.
