Angry Birds rocket into space
Angry Birds has been a hugely successful game on mobile devices. It has been so successful that there are different variations of the game (Angry Birds Seasons, Rio, Space, Star Wars), plush toys, and even an Angry Bird animated television series. Most people cannot fathom how this game can be used in the classroom. However, there is a movement of educators who are leveraging the power of this game in their classroom to help students understand how physics works. Students can learn about gravity, force, and wind resistance by playing the game. Angry Birds Space, the newest variation of the game, takes place in space. This means that the typical implications of gravity, force, and wind resistance are different. Instead, students who play the game have to adjust for low-gravity situations and consider how objects orbit around planets. The popularity of Angry Birds Space even made it to space. During a stay on the International Space Station, Don Pettit demonstrated trajectories in space by tossing a Red Bird through the space station.
