Use Physics without even knowing it

My Take

Angry birds is a great learning tool for students to develop problem solving skills while using physic concepts. I like that the characters and scenery are bright and colorful enough to grab any kid’s attention. I think the fact that they are constantly coming out with new versions of Angry Birds helps serve students better.

How I Use It

I worked with a multiple disabilities classroom teacher in showing her students how they could problem solve in groups then instruct the teacher which way to “fling the bird”. Students were engaged as they talked with each other about the best way to get all of the pigs. It became quite a contest between each group to see who had the best way of doing it. Since you can only try it one way with the bird, some groups were disappointed they didn’t have an opportunity to see how theirs would work until later. We remedied this by trying one on the Smartboard and one on another iPad to see which was most effective. The students came away with experience of working together to problem solve situations as well as physic concepts that they would not have been interested in if it were presented another way.
