My Take
XtraMath is a simple, easy-to-implement website for elementary students to develop math fact fluency. This is a low-risk program that gives teachers or parents the option to set an appropriately leveled skill set for students. Students can work on addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. There are different time settings to give students more time to answer or less, depending on their level of skill.
While XtraMath may not be the most engaging platform out there, my fifth grade students have always welcomed the challenge. They enjoy working through the different skill sets and love to receive their certificate of mastery when they finish a level.
How I Use It
The XtraMath set-up makes it easy for teachers to create a class and get students started. Using class computers, students individually complete their daily practice (5-10 min). When they are finished, the next student's name appears. The student can then notify that student it is their turn. If a student is absent or busy, the student can mark that and another name will be chosen. This means that students can work their way through the class with little disturbance to class routines.
When teachers create a class, they are given printable letters for parents to set up their home computer for XtraMath. Teachers receive weekly emails that update them on their students' progress.
