My Take

Weebly is a very good resource to use for teaching – it also has the ability to “blog” on the site. I have used Kid’s Blog in conjunction with Weebly for added interest and opportunities for students to view various blogging formats. I especially like that Weebly can be private, I tend to be more conservative when it comes to online formats for my students, however, it is also a super tool to use for a class webiste. The only con I have experienced with Weebly is it can be rather slow or “clunky” at times, but for the most part, it is a great tool and I strongly suggest getting the free account!

How I Use It

I have used Weebly to create a website for a Social Studies class as well as introduced Weebly to my students as a means to create students’ digital portfolios. The teacher edition allows students up to five “pages” which is works out great for an educational portfolio considering one can embed content and upload multiple types of digital formats (Google docs, presentation-ware, JPEGs, etc.). Weebly is easy to use, has appealing web formats, and allows for privacy and ease of editing and uploading of content. My students love using Weebly and become coaches for beginning students. I have also used Weebly in conjunction with the HAIKU learning management system. They pair nicely and add to the interest of the class site.
