I love that my kids don't need someone who plays the piano. I love that you can select speed. I love that you can select harmonic/melodic intervals. I love that they can work on their ears without someone there to help them.
It's not so visually appealing, but it doesn't need to be. It's not a dog and pony show. It's a get better ears show.
How I Use It
Tell your students what intervals they are working on, or what kind of chords (triads, seventh chords) and they can select those for their quiz. Once they tell the program what to quiz them on, it's go time. Absolutely perfect for ear training. I wish I had this in college!

Useful independent practice for music students!
I think Tone Savvy is a useful tool for individual music theory and ear training practice in the classroom or at home. The site is set up to "quiz" students on music theory and ear training concepts and offers a range of difficulties - from beginner to advanced levels. The site could be useful for older elementary, middle, high school, and college students. The content is expansive and includes practice with notes, chords, intervals, dictation and other musical concepts. Students can choose the level of difficulty for each quiz, and I like that they can choose to identify specific notes/chords to work on in a quiz, which allows them to focus on more challenging areas. I also like that the site gives immediate feedback, thus students know whether their answer is correct, and can adjust their answers/try again before moving to the next question. I wish that the site was not only quiz-based, because calling each exercise a "quiz" could create anxiety for students and/or decrease their motivation to learn without fear of making mistakes. Also, the tool could be more visually interesting and engaging. The screen is not very dynamic - the colors don't change, and it could benefit from more animation and exciting rewards when students do well.
