My Take

While this is an easy tool to use; the free version does not offer much in the way of options. While it does allow you to create recordings of what you are doing on your computer screen, it does not allow you to modify those recordings, so you will need another type of software to do the editing or pay for the service though Screencastify. I find that this software is more applicable to teachers and trainers who need to create videos, how-to lessons, or things for the classroom.

How I Use It

Screencastify is an extension that work with the Google Chrome Browser. This means you must be using Chrome to use Screencastify. I use this tool mostly for my own professional development and for use as a teacher to create short training videos for students and staff. This tool works seamlessly in Google Chrome to record what you are doing on your screen. You are also able to record your voice explaining what you are doing on the screen. I have students use this software because it is easy to install on their browser, there is no signin procedures, items can be automatically saved to their Google Drive and it is easy to use. The application in the classroom will be limited using the free version. Using the paid version, the options become much more open.
