My Take
Many teachers struggle to find authentic scientific text that is available for free on the internet. Scitable has a massive article library which means that kids have a choice in what they read. This is an incredible resource especially for older high school students or advanced learners.
How I Use It
I send my genetics students to Scitable to get up to date resources for their research project. In addition I use it when I am teaching students how to interpret and paraphrase scientific text. We begin with one article as a class and use strategies like text annotation and two column notes to break down its meaning. Then students learn to paraphrase and cite each source with the support of NoodleTools.com.
