My Take

This database is a wonderful tool to use with primary, HiLo, ESL, and special needs students. The topics within PebbleGo are broken up by subject and the navigation is easy to understand and picture heavy for students who might need help. Another added benefit is the the option to have information read to the students along with the option for a video clip of the topic and a sound bite (where appropriate). My classes loved clicking around, looking at different topics and they were sharing what they looked at as they were packing up to leave class.

How I Use It

I use this database with primary grades when we start talking about having an information need and how can we answer our own questions. After we have talked about where we can find info, we take part of a class to log into and navigate around PebbleGo. After students get comfortable with navigating they are giving time to work on their own to find answers to a question they asked. Most students were able to pick up the navigation quickly but a few still needed assistance, have a designated class helper is awesome. Also, if you have a class set of headphones it's a good idea to pull them out. Students loved have the database read the information to them and it's gets distracting quickly without some kind of volume control.
