My Take
The only struggle we had with Minecraft was getting kids to stop when the time was up. They really had a ton of fun with this activity. I did walk the room and check to see what was happening on each screen, but the kids were always on task because they enjoyed it so much.
How I Use It
We first began using Minecraft in my classroom while reading The Kite Runner. At the end of each class period, my students were allowed time to work on their Minecraft worlds. The goal was for each student to create the places that were being described in the novel. I found that my students were excited to read the novel because they wanted to see what else they could add to their world. Each Minecraft project was unique, but everyone of my students could justify their choices. It was great to see some of my lower level readers really connect with the novel because of this project.
