My Take
I really like how easy it is to use. My students had no trouble navigating the site. I assigned the feedback tool and the proofreader for a class essay. They attached my rubric, pasted their essays, and were immediately given feedback on how to correct their work. This saved me so much time and also saved them points that they would have lost if they had not had this tool to proofread. Peer reviews are not always effective at this age. It is also very quick, which is always a huge plus. I have also used it to give teacher feedback on essays. I upload my rubric, then the students' work, and it gives great, consistent feedback. It would take me days to give the feedback that the AI is able to provide in seconds. I always check to make sure it is accurate, but I find that I rarely need to make a correction. The one complaint that I have is the number of seats within a class. We are given 250, which is more than enough for my students, but every time they log on, it counts as a seat. That is an issue that needs to be fixed.
How I Use It
I was recently introduced to Magic School at an AI training for teachers. I have been using it as a teacher resource since that training and have found it very easy to use. It saves me a lot of time regarding creating resources for my students. I do have to check and make sure that everything is correct, but I expect that when using AI. It is not perfect, but it is getting much better. I have also allowed my students to use Magic School Student to help them with editing their essays, as well as proofreading. I love that it allows me to assign only the tools that I want them to use. It provided the students with good feedback on writing, and the proofreader was great at showing them their mistakes, especially when it came to quoting things correctly. That is a big struggle for junior high students.
