My Take

This resource is not a teaching tool per se. It is simply a tool to help effectively monitor students reading fluency and accuracy. Its richness lies in the fact that teachers gain back lots of time by passing on the scoring and analyzing to the Literably website. Teachers can still expect timely results (scores are returned within one day) and quickly adjust instruction to better meet students’ individual needs.

How I Use It

Though I have not yet used Literably with my class, I have experimented using it with a third grader. I see it as a great time saver for teachers as it records, scores, and provides results for running records. It also analyzes the results and provides data such as words per minute and percentage accuracy as well as saves historical results for each student. The free account allows teachers 10 individual recordings/results per month (this is a recent change as it used to be 15 per month), which, while not enough to monitor an entire class monthly, could allow for each student to be assessed bi-monthly for free. There are also paid options to receive unlimited recordings per month.
