Excellent introduction to Coding
Community Review for Lightbot : Programming Puzzles
My Take
As an introductory practice to coding in the early grades, Light Bot is very versatile. It provides tutorials in 4 different languages (English, French, Portuguese and Russian). It can be set up very easily since it is a free app, it can be used individually, in small groups or as a whole class.
Interest and challenge is immediate and students are engages very quickly, and it encourages learning differentiation since students can learn and progress at their own pace.
How I Use It
I use Light Bot in different settings in a bilingual French American School, I use the tutorial in French. in a Coding After School Class with students from grade1 to grade 4. Light Bot is usually presented as the first step into a "Learning Coding" progression.
As I was trying to introduce coding into our 2nd and 3rd grade bilingual curriculum, the opportunity happened after lessons and experiments about electricity (open/close circuit with or without switch), since the goal, in Light Bot, is to program a robot to turn on light bulbs, the continuum of learning was perfect and now we're implementing a regular follow up.
I also used it during Computer Science Education Week for a successful "Hour of Code" event.
