Increase student engagement with Kahoot!
Community Review for Kahoot!
My Take
I love that Kahoot! gets my students excited about what we are learning. In both English and reading classes, most students are pumped when they walk into class and see Kahoot! is on the agenda for that day. It isn't often to see students really engaged in grammar practice, but the competitive piece Kahoot! brings to the classroom really gets some kids ready to participate. I also like that Kahoot! is a review activity that has every student involved in answering every single question.
One piece that I believe is missing from Kahoot! is that I can't see how individual students performed on the activity at the end of the game. It would be really nice to be able to see each student's data to determine which students really need more instruction.
How I Use It
I've used Kahoot! as a tool for reviewing materials that have already been thoroughly covered in class. I've used it to review before tests over class novels, before quizzes over grammar concepts, and before quizzes over vocabulary words. Kahoot! works really well for covering basic material, but since you are limited to multiple choice questions, it can be a challenge to use it for in-depth classwork. Kahoot! has also enabled me to receive quick feedback regarding which topics students know and which ones they don't know because after each question, you get to see a graph depicting how many students selected each answer choice. This feature allows me to give on-the-spot instruction on topics with which students are struggling.
