My Take
iCivics is an excellent program that utilizes proficient teaching materials to boost students’ civics knowledge and skills with their government classes. Through lessons, media and especially games, students can get a taste of the murky water that is the reality of American politics. The games are the main focus, as they help enforce lessons in the classroom in a fun way, often with a refreshing honesty.
How I Use It
iCivics can be used in a variety of ways that can incorporate difficult and complex processes many governments at any level (Federal, State, Municipal) experience in to students learning about the political processes. For example, if students want to experience the process of the three branches of government with character created decisions to create an efficient government, the students can see how their decisions can affect the government with their reactions to certain issues. Keeping to simple topics to avoid controversy issues that can affect the users ability to continue the program, it does a great job with creating a learning experience for students 6-12th grades.
