My Take

Go Ask Alice! is a great resource to use for having students research information on health topics when used as a "starting point." The information is valid, reliable, and presented in a format that is accessible for most readers. If looking for more in-depth information on health topics, this is not the place to go. Additionally, the site is text heavy and not interactive. The most valuable part of the site, to me, is where students can get answers to their difficult questions from real health professionals in a non-threatening, confidential, nonjudgmental environment.

How I Use It

This site is a great resource for information about a variety of health topics including general health, sexual and reproductive health, alcohol and other drugs, nutrition and physical activity, emotional health, relationships, and other health related topics. The site includes fact sheets and information that is useful for research on health topics. Overseen by a team of Columbia University health promotion specialists and health care providers, the site is a reliable resource. Students can also ask questions and get nonjudgmental answers. This is especially helpful when schools are unable to answer some of the questions that students ask teachers.
