Best of the best math program - model for others
Community Review for Frax
My Take
It's focused on what it tries to teach. It does so step by step , thoroughly and so thoughtfully. To really get to understand what fractions are about and how to have a sense of them. Focusing on fractions as numbers. And focusing on having a thorough understanding of them, not just get the right answer. Importantly, the math is part of the play, and the play and story are there enough to keep it interesting, but never get in the way of this mostly being about learning math. The distracted and not-in-love-with-math fourth grader said she didn't like it at first, but she never really fought it and ended up choosing to do it on her own sometimes as an option. And she learned so much fraction sense. I have read Frax 2 is coming out, and I'm very interested. Common Sense Education has a youtube video about Frax praising it, which I completely agree with. It's a model math program. I hope the company ExploreLearning continues with these. Reflex was good with the right support, and Frax is even better. Honestly the best computer program I've used for elementary math education.
How I Use It
Working with a struggling student to get up to speed in fractions in fourth grade. I watched her complete most of the 27 levels.
