Community Review for Cargo-Bot
My Take
This product is game like and so the students want to 'beat' the next level. This makes the coding that much more fun.
How I Use It
Students used Cargo Bot as one option in Coding class. It was great for the 3-5 but our non-readers found difficulty although this product was recommended to us as an elementary app during a conference. Non-readers are unable to read the tutorial prompts so there is a ton of one on one support. I did a search on the net for Cargo Bot lessons and there are a couple of people who have created screen shots and created laminated versions for students to pre-plan their moves.

Awesome app to get students thinking in ways they don't always do.
I feel this app has a lot of value in education. The thinking involved in coding and using this app is so valuable. Students are forced out of their comfort zone to consider possibilities as they think through the process to get the desired outcome.

Challenging early coding/programming skills bulding app for students beyond the introductory level.
Cargobot is a great app for practicing and teaching coding skills to students who have already advanced passed the foundational level and are no longer challenged (or interested) in resources such as Kodable, Lightbot, or My Robot Friend. I like that the app takes the programming challenge to a practical environment (controlling a robot arm to stack cargo boxes, an authentic task) while remaining in a game-like format. Be aware that the difficulty of the game progresses quickly through the levels however, so be observant of student frustration levels.
