Awesome for introducing new concepts to students!
Community Review for BrainPOP
My Take
While I believe that BrainPOP is a great tool for introducing a topic to students, I do think that some of the additional activities they provide feel too much like worksheets. I often times look at the additional activities that BrainPOP suggests and attempt to find ways to adapt their ideas to make them more engaging. I enjoy the humor that is included in each video and the range of topics that the videos cover.
How I Use It
I mainly use BrainPOP to introduce new literacy concepts to my students. I believe it does a great job of quickly providing students with an overview of a topic. Before we begin a video, I always provide students with a purpose for watching. For instance, I might say, "When we are finished watching this video, I want you to be able to define idiom and cliche and be able to tell me the difference between the two." Following the videos, almost every student is able to complete the task I've given them, and I believe we are then able to delve into each topic more deeply.
