Interactive addition and subtraction games for beginners!
Community Review for Beginning Operations
My Take
I definitely think that this product is fun and engaging for the younger learners. I do not think this game alone would teach students addition and subtraction, but it can be used as a resource to reinforce the concept or for practice. While they do offer Level 2 - Facts to 12, my advanced learners got bored with this game pretty fast.
How I Use It
I used this product when I taught Kindergarten (it was an ICT class). We used this on the SmartBoard after discussing adding numbers (and then again after introducing subtraction). It is very young child friendly - audio allows students to hear the directions, as well as see the words on the screen. Visuals help students add the different objects and the numbers in the boxes with the signs, help reinforce the number sentence that goes with it. There are four games - two addition and two subtraction (you can choose Level 1 - Facts to 6 or Level 2 - Facts to 12). Each game has 3 rounds and then you can play again or choose a different game. If a student gets an answer wrong, the game will tell them to try again and once they get the answer correct, it still counts as a round. I wish they had more levels for the advanced learners, but it really is for beginning learners. The visuals and audio are great supports for ELLs and Special Needs students. This game can also be put on the computer for independent practice, review, small group, etc. My students liked the Drive-Thru Diner Addition the best.
