My Take

Like any website or software the effectiveness of ABC Ya! depends on the planning and implementation of the teacher. It is a great website for education games and activities to support what students are learning. Some of the flash activities can be glitchy and at the directions are not always clear. The activities are connected to the common core so teachers can demonstrate how they connect with student learning goals.

How I Use It

Teachers can use ABC Ya! to support basic math and language arts concepts through simple flash activities. Teachers select an activity based on grade level. Then they can choose from letters, numbers, more, holiday and just for fun. Most of the activities will require a teacher to explain and demonstrate before students can work independently. Some of the activities are game based and some have the students create work. In the computer I used the Computer Input and Output activity to review computer peripherals. Students also can create a robot, car, house and other images and then provide a description. This can help to support students learning to navigate computer menus and making choice while including a literacy component.
