Yoi become part of the trauma team and help make decisions that support the care of an accicdent victim.
As a teaching tool using EdHeads Trauma could be very powerful and lead to some much needed discussions. I liked the organization of the simulation, the worksheets and the type of information offered. I think that the classroom teacher will need to do a lot of pre-teaching of vocabulary and set the stage for the simulation before beginning. I am concerned about just how real it seemed to the students and those not exposed to death may have some difficulty dealing with the fatality in the simulation. An engaging simulation that allows students to diagnose a patients
Students love it! The simulation gives them the opportunity to see what medical personnel do. The scenario is based on teenagers who have abused prescription drugs - something students can relate to - although the students end up in the emergency room. The teacher support materials, while not intensive, are quite helpful, with a lesson plan and glossary. While the characters talk, there is also text that students can follow along with, which is helpful for poor readers or second language learners. I would like to see more interactivity and less text/talking during the simulation. Students use observation and reasoning skills as they work through the simulation. The ensuing class discussion is the most valuable part of this activity. There is an "Interesting People" link at the end that takes students to a person who is working in a related field, what they do and the education they have. This can be useful for career education integration.
